Welcome Balance
Week One
Welcome to your first lesson on your brand new journey!!
The first theory we are going to embody is the philosophy of balance. Why? Because we are starting at the beginning and if you start a new journey on unstable ground, the stones are likely to fall out from under your feet. But, if we clear the path before we get to the tough part, at least we'll have a stable path while we climb.
Balance; to make something equal -
Balance should be required in all areas of life. I say SHOULD be a requirement because it doesn't seem to be a thing -- if we stop to think about how often we hear balance I can recall it in reference to diet "have a blanced diet..." and a banking account. Hardly do we hear we should have balance in our time, balance in our love life, balance in how we play, balance in how we give and receive.
When we are out of balance in any of these areas, we feel it! It radiates and penetrates everything -- do we label it as imbalance, unlikely -- usually its "i havent been sleeping well." "I've need a holiday." "We never have sex."
When we are out of balance, EVERYTHING is out of balance.
Balance is not a process, but a way of life. If you want to welcome balance back in your life, you must seek balance.
So, if you say, "I'm not sleeping well." this translates to: my sleep and wake cycle is way out of balance -
solution: instill some good before bed habits - such as, turning off electronics hours before bed, no eating hours before bed, begin a ritual to unwind yourself and shut things down before heading to bed, sleep in a room free of electronics and preferably dark.
If your sleep is lacking, set yourself up for success, the same way you would as if your diet or check book needed balancing.
If you're life is out of balance, the only way to bring it back in to balance is to choose from the desire for balanced living. No matter what part of life you are choosing from. The first step is to choose to bring things back in to balance -
This week, while go through the mantras, open life to welcoming balance as your first step.
“I am the Balance I Seek.”
In order to become a balanced being, balance must be where you choose from. Today, seek the balance you've been longing for. If you've needed a day off, take the day off. If you've needed to go for a walk, take one! Where ever you find yourself today, see if you can bring your balance to the forefront of your decisions and choose from there.
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
What does a balanced life look like to you?
EXERCISE : BALANCED LIVING
How can you be more balanced?
List at least two things in your life you are willing to commit to changing in order to bring balance.
Example:
1. Spend more time in nature.
2. Be more conscious about what I eat.
Commit to your two choices and be willing to change right now.
“I am the balance of giving and receiving.”
Often in our daily lives we find ourselves on the giving end more than on the receiving end. This can be self generated, in the fact that we teach others how to treat us. But it can also be generated from the ego - when we find ourselves unnecessarily sacrificing for those around us it can through our good intentions out the window. Today, when seeking balance, be willing and open to receiving as much as you are giving.
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
Does receiving make you uncomfortable? Dig deep into the why ....
EXERCISE: OPEN TO RECEIVE
Grant yourself permission to receive.
When someone offers to do something for you, allow them to. When someone sends you warm wishes, say thank you without feeling like you have to send them back. When you find yourself needlessly sacrificing, stop.
“I am the balance of doing and being.”
Today, look at your balance between your doing, and your being. What the heck does that mean Rebekah? If you know what I mean by doing and don't know what I mean by being, it might be an area of your life that is out of balance. HA! Seriously though, so often we push through doing our day and then its over and we get to wake up and push through the doing of the next day! Today, attempt to be. It may sound extreme, but set an alarm on your phone to go off every two hours or so, when the alarm goes off, stop what you're doing and just breathe. Consciously, not just inhale exhale done - take a conscious consideration to the breath filling your body and the breath leaving your body - each breath count should last to five or six. After three or four rounds of breathing, take a moment to look around you. Notice where you are, who is near, what sounds are around, what smells are in the air, and then note how you are feeling. Be present in the moment you find yourself in. This only needs to last a few moments before you can get back to your doing.
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
What did being feel like today?
EXERCISE : FOR ONE DAY
For one day, several times in that day, perhaps set an alarm for every two to three hours to stop yourself and breathe. Where ever you find yourself when the alarm goes off just stop thinking, speaking, doing and take a deep inhale to the count of 6, hold for 3 and slowly release the breath for 8. Repeat 3 times. Then allow yourself to come back to what you were doing.
“I am the balance of intention and conscious action.”
When you set out on your day today, carry with you the awareness of intention. Like yesterdays doing and being, many days are buzzed through without consideration to our intention for living that day, let alone moving through with consciousness. When we consider our intention before our day begins, it resides at the forefront of our minds. Welcome the intention of conscious action while you move through your today and watch with gentle observation yourself unfold.
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
What fears prevent you from showing up to your intended life?
EXERCISE : INTENTIONAL LIVING
Every thing you do today, do it with intention. Savor the smell of the morning, the taste of your food, the brushing of your hair. Find intention in the small things.
“I breathe in love, I breathe out love.”
It is as important that we welcome the breathing in of love, as readily as we focus on the breathing out of love. This balance of give and take of the frequency of love begs us to be conscious of how we interact with others. Observe the tiny reactions in your system when you say the words, "breathe in love." If there is resistance, ask yourself why breathing in love finds to be difficult? Dig deep and then ask yourself if the fear of love is necessary?
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
Knowing our choices reside in fear or love, how often do you choose love?
EXERCISE : BREATHE
Morning, noon, night : BREATHE. When you wake, before your feet hit the floor, open your eyes and take a deep breath in, and a super deep breath out. Do this twice more, thank the Universe for another beautiful day and THEN put those feet on the floor. From here, throughout your day, each moment you find yourself in ask yourself if you're breathing. If you aren't, breathe.
“I am the balanced between above and below.”
When we find balance behind our heart, we feel the equality of residing on Earth, the space between spaces. The balance we seek in above and below is the balance of congruent living. Are you to the world who you are when no one is looking?
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
What parts of you do you keep from the world?
What do your moments in-between look like? Remember, the more honest you are with yourself the deeper the work will go.
EXERCISE: ABOVE AND BELOW
Plant your feet firmly on the Earth. Close your eyes, extend through the crown and out through the bottoms of your feet. Feel yourself balanced in the space between what is above you and what is below.
“I am balanced, safe and free.”
JOURNAL REFLECTION:
What does freedom feel like? How often do you feel this way?
EXERCISE : MAKING ROOM FOR YOU
Create a space in your home just for you. It doesn't need to be huge, but make it your own. Be sure to let everyone in the house know this space is yours and to please respect it by leaving it be.
This week's focus on balance asked you to observe how you interact with you and with others. Seeking the fluid rhythm to the ebb and flow of discovering your balance - if you find you need to do this week again or focus a bit longer on one of the mantras feel free to stay as long as you need. Please be sure to incorporate the exercises daily as they are meant to help solidify things as you progress!
Good work on making it through the first week!!
Looking forward to seeing you next week where we learn to empower our choices. Until then, peace and love!
